Show PUKES AWARDED TO STUDENTS OF THE GRADE SCHOOLS I 'Beginning at 2:30 this afternoon, at the Lewis junior high school, an' assembly was held, under the auspices aus-pices of the Historical society for the! purpose of hearing read the prize! winning essays on the subject of "Birds," and awarding the prizes. The "Bird Essay" contest wag inaugurated in-augurated by the Historical society! a little more than a month ago, to! be participated In by the students of' th three junior high schools and of) the fourth, fifth and 6ixth grades of the city schools. The first prize in 1 each of the two divisions is $2.50, donated by the Historical society and the second prize i& $1.50, donated by Albert Coonley. A large number! ! of essays were handed in to the teachers of each school, and the best of these were selected by the teach-j teach-j ers and 6ent Into the committee for , final Judgment The committee is composed of Mrs. Phil Knisely. Mrs I J S. Gordon and Mrs. Edward Blch-l Blch-l sel. Mrs. Knisely and Mrs. Gordon acted ag judges and the prizes were awarded as follows. In the Junior high school contest. Jennie Mattson and Elizabeth Sep pich of the Lewis junior high school won the first and second prize, 'respectively, 're-spectively, and in the grade contest, Nellie Fowler and Meyer Teltelbaum of the Pingree school were the winners. win-ners.
