D. Brown of the Ogden club, Pfttf. at lunch, in the Weber club at noon and was to accompany Mr. Brown to Glenwood this afternoon, to sec the game between the Murray and Ogden arn( teams. In speaking of opening at Boise, President Murphy said that it was DOsf I the '?reatcftt event 0f the kind he had ever seen, local enthusiasm being ai fever heat. The weather in the Idaho Ida-ho capital was clear and cold, but nearly lfioo fans braved the cold and saw the first game. A parade, which he estimated to have been nearly a mile long, preceded the game and ev P erything connected with the occasion t proved highly gratifying to him and the Boise club. For the success of the affair, he gives all credit to W Fred Bossner, formerly a reporter on the Standard. Bossner. he said, was not interested ' In any way, except as a loyal 1 booster," boost-er," but he took all of the arrange 1 ments for the opening day on his ehoulders and made the affair a brll-1 brll-1 D Uant one. iiH From the report of the succesful opening at Ogden and what he saw for himself at Boise, President Murphy Mur-phy says that he is sanguine of the iOst. 1914 season being a big financial success suc-cess for the association as well as one which will ghe the fans the best baseball yet seen in the lntermoun tain country. As an evidence of tins, he reiterated his statement of last Monday, to the effect that the Union association would put up a class of ball as good or better than that on the coast by saying that Boise recently recent-ly won from the Spokane Indians and Ethat team now leads the other north west coast teams In the percentage columns by a good margin. After seeing the game at Glenwood Othis afternoon, President Murphy will go to Salt Lake to confer with President Pres-ident Larry Duggan of the Butte club p and will see the game between the t team from his home town and the Salt Lakers tomorrow afternoon. He expects to return to Ogden for the Saturday contest, In the game this afternoon at Glenwood, Shader will pitch for Mur-ray Mur-ray and Lemley for Ogden, with Auer t, and Raedel receivers. Pitcher Healy, who has been with the Ogden club through the training season, has befti released to the Terre Haute club of the Central association. |
