Show MANZANILLO WAS NOT BOMBARDED Admiral Howard Reports Mexico City Story Unfounded Unfound-ed Americans "Not Even There." Washington, April 30. The report from Mexico City, that the port of Manzanillo on the Pacific coast, had been bombarded b an American warship, war-ship, was denied at the White House today Investigation disclosed that a conflagration, said to have been of incendiary origin, had occurred there, but American forces had nothing to do with it The White House communicated with Secretary of the Navy Daniels early In the day with relation to the Manzanillo report and also the dispatcher dis-patcher that American marines had landed at Salina Cruz. Admiral Howard, How-ard, commander of the American naval nav-al forces on the Pacific coast, replying reply-ing to Inquiries from the secretary of the navy, told of the conflagration at Manzanillo and also denied thai American marines had landed at Salina Sa-lina Cruz. Referring to the Manzanillo report, Admiral Howard's message said: "Unfounded. There was an incendiary' incen-diary' fire at Manzanillo. Wc were not even there." |
