OCR Text shed tears when called upon to de fend himself it Is not often that the ordinary police court offender sheds tears and when he does it is because he has been touched deeply by the pathos of his own story or by the hopelessness of his position he realizes that he Is in a position to receive the cuffs and hicks of alio world so ho usually pleads guilty to whatever charge is brought against him regardless of his guilt or innocence charles miller heard the complaint read against him charging him with vagrancy he uttered a crisp not guilty and prepared to defend himself he was given a chance to speak after the officers had testified that fae had no visible means of support and under the cross examination of the atty attorney he told a story somewhat amiss but with the ring of truth in it miller was arrested at the request of pocatello officers he had on a suit of clothes which were claimed by his former roommate room mate and at the police station he stripped himself naked and gave to his pal the clothes he asked for he was given a makeshift suit by the officers and brought into court in the cross examination the city attorney accused him of being a thief although the charge was vagrancy and under a severe questioning be broke down and cried as a c neld although he stoutly maintained that he vas innocent of the crime of petit larceny As the were alleged to have been stolen in idaho he cannot be convicted in utah of petit larceny but to give his pal a chance to tell Ms story the case was continued until this morning just liow the officials intend to prove him guilty of vagrancy by a petit larceny examination is a little doubtful
