COAL DEPOSITS capitalists working quietly but energetically ergeti cally toward developing fields f price aug 12 quietly but with a show of bergy that indicates early completion of the plan a party of capitalists Is working on the development of the immense coal deposits in cedar creek with a view to opening large mines and establishing a coal camp that will rival any of the camps in this part 0 the state within a few years about claims have been taken by prominent business men of the state mostly from salt lake and included in this number are several men who have boado good starts in the last few months toward recognition as prominent independent coal operators these men it is learned have the support of prominent eastern capitalists and there remains for them only to make the of coal which every one in this part of the state knows to be there and ample finances will be at their disposal for opening the mine george M miller postmaster and merchant of huntington and an enthusiastic thusia member of tho booster bunch la representing some of the utah project and he has been in salt lake this week ordering drills tracks and other machinery to be used in the preliminary development of the property it Is mr millers opinion that a railroad will be built from the point of present operations to connect with the rio grande western just east of price within tho next year the main vein of coal is 22 feet at the point where four funnels have already been driven and the entrances are of easy access the incline being smaller than that of the castle gate mine while in price last sunday en route to salt lake mr miller sau he expected that beveral cabins would be erected next winter as the beginning of a coal camp and that development work would bo carr leil on without delay so that the property would be in a position to produce large quantities of coal as soon as the branch railroad line is completed although surveys of the railroad from the rio grande western to tho site of tho new camp have not been completed preliminary investigation has shown t nat the road can ho built with a maximum grade of about 4 per cent and by this route tho road would be about 25 miles long mr miller while not connected directly with the coal operations in iso cedar creek district is interested in the project on account ot having about 1700 acres of excellent land there with water rights from tho creek this land he believes will increase rapidly in value with the advent of a new coal camp |
