OCR Text ENTITLED TO BENEFITS attorney general says school children may be protected at helper attorney general M A breeden returned the following nii in response to a query from hon henry W pratt of provo relative to saloons within the statutory distance from the public school at helper referring to your personal presentation to me of the situation at helper respecting the location of liquor saloons in which liquors are sold within feet of public schools I 1 beg to say that although the building you describe is not a public school building in the strict sense but used and occupied as a public school for the accommodation of the school children of the town of helper it la entitled to the benefits of the law tor the location of saloons within feet of a school building used for that purpose the legislature intended to protect the children and pupils attending the public schools provided for that purpose from the pernicious influences surrounding the places where liquors are sold etc 1 I do not believe the commissioners can legally withdraw a liquor license granted prior to the establishment of a public school within feet of its location but the commissioners could and it would be their duty to refuse to renew the license after it had ex kirej
