All Democrats may not think the measure is all that should be grauted, but everyone of theai thinks it is a long e'ep forward, aad as much as cm consistently be asked at this time in the light of past history and the temper of the American people- Democrats favor the bill because they are beHevers in the principles of self-government and this measure promises to fetch that boon earlier and in larger degree de-gree than any other which can be devised. Democrats believe implicitly im-plicitly in the sincerity of the great majority of the Utah people in certain cer-tain religious and political movements move-ments of the pat eighteen months, and are ready to demonstrate their belift and confidence to thi farthest extent which will be tolerated by the sentiment of the country Democrats understand, as do all intelligent Mo'inons, that there exists a doubt throughout the Union concerning the sincerity of the Saints, which doubt can be I dispelled only by time. It is believed be-lieved that the time will be materi-' materi-' ally shortened by '.he passage of this bill, which will give the peo- pie an immediate opportunity to prove how true they are to ihsir professions, and how well they can keep faith with themselves and their fellow citizens. If there is a better or speedier way, under the circumstances for bringing this community into the enjoyment of horn's rule and elevating the territory terri-tory to the position of an American commonwealth, the demccracy would be pleased to learn of it, when the pirty of self-government and popular rule will at once adopt and advocate the plan.
