Show WELL IS WONDER HIGH SCHOOL WATER STRIKE Far Surpasses All Expectations. Twenty Thousand Gallons of Water Per Hour, the Present. Record. While earlier reports of the bringing bring-ing in of a good well of water on the high school property, as published in the News last week, were unusually unus-ually gratifying to the school authorities author-ities as well as being of great interest in-terest to residents of Milford in general, gen-eral, developments of the past few days have greatly exceeded even the most sanguine expectations of those who have been following the progress prog-ress of the work. As stated. in a previous issue, the well was sunk to a depth of 275 feet, where a strong flow was encountered, encount-ered, which forecasted a supply of good water sufficient to take care of the most extreme needs of the school. At this depth, sand was encountered encount-ered in considerable quantities and it became necessary to clear the hole, which has just been completed. An air line was . inserted into the well and an air compressor started, which brought up a tremendous body of water, estimated conservatively at 3,000 gallons a minute or close to 20,000 gallons an hour. A three days pumping test, maintained this flow without decrease, giving the school a supply over four times its actual .needs, even in the most extreme ex-treme emergency. The water is of excellent quality and very soft. The well is now cleared of sand and gives every evidence of being an unfailing supply, about 240 feet of water standing in the hole. |
