Show German Brown Trout planted in Piute Resv. Trout fishing nay become a reality in Piute Reservoir as early as next fall H'.i7(i. The Division of Wildlife Resources recently stocked over 47, 000 german brown trout lour to six inches in length in this reservoir. Fish will be stocked each year for three years with creel data being taken to determine catch rate and survival and growth rates in the reservoir. This data will enable biologists to formulate for-mulate future management 4 recommendations. The fish were obtained from a strain of wild german browns from Fish Lake and raised in the Panguitch Hatchery. They have boon marked with a special flotirescent spray that embeds in the scale pigments and will only show up with a black light, which w ill aid biologists in determining catch rate for future stocking policies. Past Gillnet studies have indicated in-dicated that Piute Reservoir is capable of producing large trout, if they can survive until they are old enough to feed on the abundant forage fish available in the lake. |
