The Commission also heard an extensive request from Lynn Fiack, supervisor of the road department relative to employment em-ployment conditions including requests for additional employee benefits for department members. mem-bers. The request included salary increases and-or that the County assume the employees share of hospitalization and retirement benefits; additional sick leave and better equalization between job classifications with the department. The Commission accepted the report but tabled the action for further study. The Road Supervisor also requested and received authorization to issue a call for bids for the purchase of a truck-tractor truck-tractor and belly dump trailer. Representatives of New Castle, R. Steve Creamer a consulting engineer, and Tom Holland, met with the commission com-mission requesting financial assistance for the improvement of the culinary water supply for the city. It was reported to the commission com-mission that the current water supply has been condemned by the State Department of Health. They report that a new well should be drilled and necessary installation made for distribution of water within the community. Mr. Holland explained that New Castle's financial status prohibited funding for a new system and requested assistance from Iron County. The request was tabled for further study and consideration. The Commission also accepted and approved the recommendation recom-mendation of Commissioner G. D. MacDonald that Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haslam of Cedar City he appointed as detention hone parents. They will assume their responsibilities immediately, it was indicated. Proposals from both Parowan City and Cedar City Corporation to the Iron County Commission were coasidered, at the regular session of the Commission held Wednesday of last week. Mayfcr Kendall Gurr, representing Parowan City and the Parowan Chamber of Commerce again appeared before the board requesting that Parowan City be given the right to obtain the old courthouse. The request was considered and discussed but no action was taken on the request by the CoiTimissioners. Iron County Attorney Hans Chamberlain was instructed to prepare a lease agreement between Iron County and Cedar City Corporation for property owned by the County but currently being used by Cedar City as an animal shelter. The Commission, however, recommended that the amount of property to be leased be reduced, suggesting that the original request was in excess of the current requirements of Cedar City. At the request of Commissioner Com-missioner Cleo Wood the Commission Com-mission also approved the purchase of two small plots of ground from the State of Utah to be used by the Road Department for gravel pits. The asking price, according to Commissioner Wood is $75 per acre. Both sites are in the vicinity of the Beryl Airport in the west desert area of the county. The first is a plot |
