Leonard Walterscheid Leonard Walterscheid named to RMAC and NAIA First Teams I Everything for SUSC, earned top I honors for the T-Birds; he was I named to first teams in NAIA District 7 and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Southern Utah State didn'i enjoy a spectacular footbal season, but one individual die stand out for the T-Birds. Leonard Walterscheid, Mr. wi Walterscheid made both squads at an offensive end; he i was also named to the RMAC defensive team as a top return j specialist. The 6-0 junior from Moab : started the season at defensive ; back for the T-Birds, but when j the receiving corps was hurting, ij he was moved to flanker, but still played DB. At one time during the season he was number one in the NAIA and finished the i regular season number ten in r! receiving. In the seven games that Walterscheid played flanker he grabbed 29 passes for 548 yards and six touchdowns. As a return specialist, he finished number three nationally in punt returns among NAIA schools, and led the ; RMAC in both kickoff returns and punt returns. He had 19 punt returns for 319 yards, good for a 16.8 average. He had 17 kickoff returns, good for 462 yards, a 27.2 yard average. El And to cap his season, he had a : total of 27 tackles while playing part time defensive back. Five other T-Birds earned honors from the RMAC. ' Center Clark Kincaid, senior from Villa Pari, Calif. (Santa i Ana J.C.); defensive linebacker Scott Stapley, senior from Bountiful, and defensive tackle Dave Cullimore, senior from Bountiful, were named to second team all-RMAC. Kincaid has been starting center two seasons, until he was injured with two games left. Stapley and Cullimore were the T-Bird standouts on defense. Stapley led the T-Birds with 105 tackles while Cullimore had 77. Quarterback Jerry Dyer and j guard Doug Bluth were named i RMAC honorab mention. |
