Show ROLLO-glyphia Iif there Is any question In the minds of anyone regarding regard-ing the need for a now Junior High School In Cdar City, the report made by the State Fire Marshall following an Inspection Inspec-tion on January 29. The report was presented at the last meeting of the Iron County School Board and I requested re-quested a copy ifrom Superintendent Super-intendent Clair Morris. After reviewing the report I thought It would bo of interest to all our xeaders to have this report re-port available. It gives you an idea of what some of the problems are: Rdbort A. Tanner, the State Fire Marshall, listed 25 deficiencies defic-iencies "which were noted and brought to the attention of thp Board for correction," , The list is long, but it would not be complete without the entire context so here are the 25 deficiencies: 1. Drapes, curtains, hangings, hang-ings, ond all other decorative materials that would tend to Increase the fire and panic hazards shall be made from a non-flammaible material or shall ibe treated and maintained main-tained in a flame retardant condition by means of a flame retardant process approved by this office. 2. The existing eelotex ceilings ceil-ings shall either be replaced with approved acoustical tile or they may be painted with an approved fire retardant paint with a flame spread rating rat-ing not to exceed 25. 3. All plain glass In corridors corri-dors shall foe replaced by wire glass set In steel frames. The glass in corridor walls not to exceed 1,296 square inches in-ches per panel and not more than 25 of each room. The door panels not to exceed 720 square Inches. 4. All doors opening onto corridor shall be a minimum 1-34" solid bonded wood core and shall not toe louvered or undercut. 5. Exit and directional exit signs shall Ibe installed where designated. 6. Anytime that the building is occupied exit lights shall b,e ighted. 7. All open stirwells shall be cut off as per discussion with approved 1-hour fire rated rat-ed assemblies and fire doors. 8. A smoke sensing device shall be installed on one side of each pair of flre doors In cooridor which shall be tied in with the electro-magnetic hold cpen devices which is Interconnected In-terconnected with the fire a-larm a-larm system. 9. All pairs of fire dcors in cooridors or stairways sep-erations sep-erations shall ibe equipped with approved automatic three-point latching devices and a coordinator to assure the inactive leaf closes first. 10. Boiler room door shall be replaced by an approved label 1-hour fire rated door and assemblies, i.e., self-dos-lng and latching devices. 11. Windows in boiler room that are exposed to school building shall be filled in with materials equivalent to existing wall. 12. Maintenance and storage area shall have celling protected pro-tected with one layer of " gypsum board iproperly sealed and taped. Note: Remove all flammable liquids and store In approved manner. 13. Existing exit doors including in-cluding auditorium and 'gymnasium 'gym-nasium shall have dead bolts removed. These doors shall be equipped with approved self-releasing self-releasing panic hardware, any other means of locking or securing sec-uring is unacceptable. "Chains and padlocks are prohibited." 14. All penetrations and holes in walls or ceilings shall be repaired with mater-lals mater-lals equivalent to Or 'better than existing construction. 15. Remove combustible storage from under stairs. 16. An approved listed manual man-ual fire alarm system shall : be Installed by a qualified person or concern, which shall include supervisory panel pan-el located in office area. The alarm system shall not be disconnected at any time except ex-cept for repairs. 17. Fire extinguishers shall be hung so that the top of the extinguisher is not over 5 feet from the floor level, or they may be installed in fire cabinets. cab-inets. In either case they shall be Teadily visible and so located lo-cated that the maximum distance dis-tance of travel does not ex-coed ex-coed 75 feet. 18. The metal cover shall be removed from fire extinguisher extin-guisher cabinet. 19. The exisiting smoke bar-rier bar-rier doors require approved self-closing devices. 20. Trash and garbage chute shall be sealed off with approved ap-proved 1-hour fire rated assemblies. as-semblies. 21. Metal shop requires one additional approved exit directly di-rectly to exterior. 22. Kitchen and cafeteria shall be separated from corri-dor corri-dor with approved 1-hour fire rated assemblies, including doors to be minimum 1" solid bonded wood core. 23.
