Show Funds approved for Cedar City sewage treatment plant project Cedar City Council was in-formated, in-formated, at their regular meeting Thursday eveing that the Denver Regional Office of the Environmental Protection Agency had approved the Sewage treatment grant requested by Cedar City Corporation and that a grant of $1,329,000 was being proceeded. i Word of the approval was received through the office of Utah Senator Wallace F. Bennett, Ben-nett, according to Mayor L. .Kerry Jones. Mayor Jones indicated in-dicated that if all goes well the call for bids on the project should be ready by July 1. The grant will provide for an interception sewer from existing treatment facilities to a new trickling, filter-type of water treatment plant, followed by a polishing pond with a life station and force main from the polishing pond to a storage reservoir. The Council in other matters took action as follows: Dr. L. V. Broadbent was reappointed to the position of official city physician for the year 1974. Dr. John Brown, owner of the Eloise Apartments at 50 West 200 South Street made the request that Cedar City Street Crews install the 24" culvert in the irrigation ditch which fronts his building. He will purchase the necessary pipe. The council agreed to cooperate with Dr. Brown. A public hearing was held concerning the City's intent to form a special improvement district East of Main Street in that residential area just south of the Cedar Crest Motel. All who attended the public hearing were in support of the project, so the call for bids for installation of sewer pipe, curb and gutter and street oiling will go out within 30 days. Bids were received from Western Rock Products and Cedar Aggregate to supply gravel for the balance of 1974 to be used on city streets and other city projects. The low bid of Cedar Aggregate was accepted. Bids for installation of curb and gutter on the new ball park oiling project were received from Blackburn and Gower, Southern Utah Concrete and from Harold Evans. The low bid of Harold Evans Was approved. The Council authorized the Cedar City Fire Department to conduct the annual fireworks show on the night of July 4, 1974. City Judge and Justice of the Peace, Haldow E. Christensen, has taken a 60 day leave of absence. ab-sence. County Judge, Gail Seegmiller, has been appointed City Judge pro-tem for that period. |
