V ..,M &SA j r ?" ) j y..i r A i Qfiowa CD&Uam Gloria DeHaven, who guest stars in MCA-TVUniversal's MCA-TVUniversal's upcoming Operation Prime Time presentation presenta-tion of Irwin Shaw's 'Evening in Byzantium' playing the wife of an aggressive agent, made her screen debut at the age of nine in Charlie Chaplin's memorable 'Modern Times' and went on to appear in more than 25 motion pictures, numerous television specials and series, the legitimate stage and nightclubs. Born in Los Angeles, she inherited her talent for entertaining from her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carter DeHaven, stars of vaudeville and silent films. In her senior year ot high school, she became a featured vocalist with the Bob Crosby and Jan Savitt Dance Bands, and at 17 was "discovered" for motion pictures by an MGM talent scout. Miss DeHaven's first film for MGM was the musical 'Best Foot Forward.' She then went on to 'Two Girls and a Sailor,' 'The Thin Man Goes Home,' 'Summer Holiday,' 'Yes Sir, That's My Baby,' 'Three Little Words,' 'I'll Get By,' 'The Yellow Cab Man,' 'So This Is Paris,' 'The Doctor and the Girl,' 'The Girl Rush' and 'Step Lively' (in which she gave Frank Sinatra his first screen kiss). She made her broadway debut co-starring with Ricardo Montalban in the musical version of 'Seventh Heaven' with Chita Rivera and Peter Gennero. Miss DeHaven has starred in summer stock productions of 'The Sound of Music,' 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown,' 'Hello Dolly!,' 'Cactus Flower,' 'Never Too Late,' 'Plaza Suite,'-'Luv,' Suite,'-'Luv,' 'The Gingerbread Lady' and more. ( She also starred in the off-Broadway play 'Have I Got One For You' and in the Chicago and London companies of the musical 'Golden Boy.' Miss DeHaven developed her own nightclub act and for several years toured the United States, including New York City, Miami, where she again played with Sammy Davis Jr., The Palladium in London with Bob Hope and in Australia and Las Vegas. She has made many appearances on television here and in London. Some of her credits include 'Marcus Welby M.D.,' 'Gunsmoke,' several made-for-TV movies and work as a regular on the series 'Nakia.' Most recently she was a regular on 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman' and was featured in a 'Quincy' episode. j |
