In the opening game the two clubs battled Thursday evening through a scoreless one and one-half innings. The game was resumed Friday night in the bottom of the second with Cedar at bat in the bottom of the second with one out and a count of 2 and 2 on the batter. The game remained scoreless through four and one-half innings of play with both clubs turning in double plays along the way. In the bottom of the fifth, with rain again threatening the game Cedar picked up a pair of runs on two hits. David Middleton started the inning with a single. Kendall Smith struck out for the first out and Middleton was forced at second on a fielders choice leaving Curt Peterson at first with two out. Charles Judd came through with a booming triple to deep center to score Peterson and came in to score on a wild pitch. Second Delay At that point the game was delayed for over an hour before the clubs could return to complete the seven inning contest. The Dixie crew went down in order in the sixth and seventh and Cedar held a one game edge with a 2-0 shutout victory. Middleton was on the mound for the victory and he gave up only one hit and he gave up only one walk. Cedar had seven hits with the big blow the triple by Judd. In the second game, which got underway at 9 p.m. Friday night Cedar had to stage a come-from-behind effort to down the crew from Dixie by a score of 8-3. Lance Prestwich, who came on the mound in relief in the first inning of play, hurled six innings of shutout ball, gave up only three hits and struck out ten, was the hero of the game. Charles Judd started on the mound for Cedar but had trouble finding the plate. Two walks an error and a fielder's choice had allowed Dixie to score one run and with Prestwich in relief, Craig Seegmiller singled to right to give Dixie a quick 3-0 lead. Take Lead It was not until the thrid frame that Cedar got on the boards when they scored four runs on just one hit to take the lead. In the frame Kendall Smith belted a single for the only hit, but three walks and a hit batter were costly for Dixie. Cedar picked up an insurance in-surance run in the fourth when Prestwich walked and came on to score on a single by Judd. In the seventh frame Cedar put the game away with three tallies on two hits. Judd opened the frame with a single followed by a walk to Bruce Nakken. Dale Corry got on on a walk to load the bases. Judd came on to score on a sacrifice fly by Brad Larson and Kerry Cox belted a double to drive in both Nakken and Corry. For Dixie Craig Seegmiller suffered the opening game loss as he went the distance and in the second game it was Randy O'Neil on the mound, he also went the distance. |
