Show James Nolan Stokes dies following Surgery; Honored at Services . J , : J..'. ;.i"f ! 'V.:-.'. I; y Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18 at the Cedar 12th Ward Chapel for James Nolan Stokes, 60, of Cedar City. Stokes died Saturday, July 15 in a Salt Lake City hospital of complications following surgery. The beloved sweetheart, husband, grandfather and friend, was born March 12, 1918 in Cleveland, Emery County to William D. and Helga Maria Johnson Stokes. He married Eva Dean Sevy Nov. 5, 1941 in Panguitch. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple in 1954. Stokes owned and operated Nolan's Barbershop Bar-bershop in Cedar City for 31 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various organizational capacities. Active in athletics he served as a manager, coach and umpire for many years in Cedar City baseball anbd softball leagues. For many years he was an active player in the Softball Association. He was affiliated with the Utah Barber Guild and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Survivors include his wife, J. NOLAN STOKES Cedar City; two sons and one daughter: Nolan Paul Stokes, Bountiful; James Daniel, Midvale; Mrs. Gerald (Eva Lynn) Foote, Las Vegas, Nev. Two infant sons preceded him in death. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; one brother and three sisters : Lawrence J. Stokes, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Elwood (Joan) Ihler, Sandy; Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Bracken, Granger and Mrs. Charles (Maude) Jones, Elmo, Utah. Burial was in the Panguitch City Cemetery under the direction of the Boyer Southern Utah Mortuary. |
