Show August31st Miss iron County The 1978 Miss Iron County Pageant will be held Thursday, August 31 in the Cedar City High School Auditorium. The Miss Iron County Pageant is a preliminary pageant to the Miss Utah and Miss America Pageants and is a marvelous opportunity for the young women of Iron County to further their educational and career opportunities. It is the desire of the Pageant Directors to stress that the Miss Iron County, Miss Utah, and Miss America Pageants are not beauty pageants but scholarship pageants, and in accordance with that, the Miss Iron County Pageant tries each year to expand their scholarship program. Many of the merchants in the Iron County area have been very helpful in setting up these various scholarships, scholar-ships, and any one who is interested in setting up a special scholarship for the pageant should contact the . Pageant Directors, Cindy Mitchell or Linda Wilson. The new queen will be awarded a one-year full tuition scholarship to Southern Utah State College. The two attendants are awarded cash scholarships to the school of their choice in the approximate amount i of $130 each. Last year a new cash scholarship was awarded in the form of a talent award, and the Pageant Directors indicate that this year efforts ef-forts are being made to award three or four talent scholarships. Any young woman between bet-ween the ages of 17 and 27, who is single and never been married and who is a resident of Iron County is eligible to be a contestant. Contestants are judged on talent, appearance in evening gown and swimming swim-ming suit, and on a personal interview. . Every eligible young woman in Iron County is encouraged to take advantage ad-vantage of this opportunity, and entry forms can be obtained from the Pageant Directors, Cindy Mitchell, 586-2323 and Linda Wilson, ' 586-4565. |
