Show t SUSC has new faculty members education, senior citizens programs, youth group programs, Upward Bound, volunteer support services, and public service programs, all sponsored as part of the SUSC Summer school program. Seven new faculty appointments ap-pointments have been approved ap-proved by the Southern Utah State College Institutional Council. AH seven of the appointees are scheduled to be on the job when the 1978 fall quarter begins. The appointments are all to replace current faculty members who have either retired or who are taking leaves of absence. The new faculty members include G. Boyd Adams, assistant professor of health and physical education, and assistant football coach; Rhead S. Bowman, assistant Cloward, dean of the School of Continuing Education and Public Service, the council heard that to date 540 students have enrolled in regular academic classes and workshops at SUSC's summer school. This is slightly more than the total enrolled last year, and a few more workshops are still scheduled for this year, according to Cloward. Cloward also reported on the progress of SUSC's cooperative program with Utah State University to offer the masters degree in professor of economics; Royden C. Braithwaite, professor emeritus of education; Clinton Bruce Cameron, interim instructor of French; Thomas P. Dence, assistant professor of mathematics; R. Clayton Huntsman, assistant professor of accounting; and Morton Lynn Smith, instructor in-structor of communication. Adams will assume much of the teaching load of Steve Harmon who resigned to accept employment at another institution. The former SUSC head basketball coach will also assist Jack Bishop, head football coach. Bowman, currently executive director of the Five County Association of Governments, will replace Stephen Gardner, who has resigned. Braithwaite just retired as president of the college effective July 1. He will assume much of the teaching load of Floyd Holm, who was teaching in the School of Education. The former president will also work one-fourth time writing a history of Southern Utah State College. Cameron is replacing James Mills, who will be on sabbatical leave for the 1978-79 1978-79 school year. Dence is also replacing a faculty member (James W. Cotts) who has been granted a leave of absence. Huntsman will take the position of DeVon Deppe, who resigned to accept a position at another institution. in-stitution. Smith will replace Stephen A. Van Dyke, who will attend law school. The council also welcomed James Hoyle, Cedar City, as a member. The oath of office was administered by Ward S. Robb, SUSC college secretary. Hoyle is the recently installed president of the SUSC Alumni Association. He replaces Ann Jones, retiring alumni president, on the council. In a report from McRay |
