Boy Magazine) 50 years ago--- By defeating Dixie, the Branch Agricultural College (Now SUSC) basketball team won its way to participate in the Inter-Mountain Junior College Tournament to be held in Ogden the 3, 4, and 5th of ( March. BAC's star of the game was Willard Lunt, making 14 points for his team. Sanders and Chamberlain did a lot of clever heavy guarding while Corry and Bettridge also played an excellent game. 25 years ago--- Dr L V Broadbent, Mayor of Cedar City returned from a 25 day, 1G 000 mile air trip to South America. He flew his own plane and went first to Miami, Florida and then to Havana Cuba. He visited St. Troix in the Virgin Islands, at St. John, Trinidad, the Port of Spain and Dutch Guinea. From there the traveling Mayor followed the coast of Brazil flew over the jungles and the Amazon River, on to Rio de Janeiro. He left his plane at Rio and boarded a commercial plane for the return flight home. 10 years ago Quenton Bowler, 5th grade instructor, at N. Elementary had an authentic document of the War, an Orderly Book, which was hand written with a quill pen, that created wide interest to 5th grade students, including Kevin Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones and Cathy Chamberlain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaRaine Chamberlain. Cham-berlain. Miss Pat Washburn, a reading observer of College of Southern Utah (SUSC) brought the document to the class The book was written by Sgt. John Cowan in 1776. Entries in that book run from May to November of 1776 and contains information pertaining to Col. Lippetts Regiment of the Continental Army. One of the entries made July 1, 1776 contained an order by the Commanding officer for troops to clean up their arms and persons, for the "Proclamation of Independence, read to them the following day. v By Dorothy Rogers |
