Show Kanab in Division Lead with Win Over Redmen The Kanab Cowboys moved one step closer to the Dixie Division or Region Eight basketball bas-ketball title Friday evening when they scored an 87 to 70 victory over the Cedar High Uedmen. The game was played at Kanab Ka-nab and put the Cowboys a full two games ahead of the Redmen at the end of the week's play, with only two remaining games on their slak'. The Redmen matched the Cowboys in the first quarter of play and held a slim 16 to 15 margin at thaat point. The Cowboys, however, generated their offense in the second period and took a lead at intermission in-termission with a 40 to 31 margin. Battling on near even terms in the third period, it was the fourth quarter that the Cowboys Cow-boys really put the game out of sight as they moved from an eight point advantage to a final 17 point margin. Cedar lost a good share of its rebounding strength late in the third quarter when both Robyn Haight and Eric Marchant left via the foul route. From that point on it was just a matter of how far the Cowboys were going to win. Wayne Esplin of the Red-men Red-men was high scorer of the evening, nevertheless, with a 31 point output and he helped keep the Redmen in contention conten-tion through three quarters of play. He was the only Redman Red-man in double figures. For the Cowboys Crosby took high scoring honors with 23, but he was not alove in the scoring department with Danny Dan-ny Frost close behind with 22 and Hamblin also in the 20s with 21 points. Saturday evening the Cowboys Cow-boys went on to defeat Enterprise Enter-prise while the Redmen defeated de-feated Dixie in a thriller at Cedar City. After the double game week end, Kanab remained re-mained in first place, the Red-men Red-men took sole possession of second and Dixie and Hurri-1 cane were left battling it out( |
