Show ' T-BWs to Clash With f arsons Friday College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds hit the road again this week as they travel to Salt Lake Cily and the Highland High School Gym to take on the Westminster Parsons. Par-sons. Westminster will be going with Ken Hall, the Nation's leading small college scorer, averaging 35 points per outing. out-ing. The Parsons' leading re-bounder re-bounder is Rusty Davidson. Up-coming forward, Bob Sha-fer, Sha-fer, will be another big factor. He has improved steadily in the past few weeks. The Thunderbirds will be out to avenge a nearlier 97-79 loss on the T-Birds floor and will counter with leading scorer scor-er and rebounder Dave Pina-monti, Pina-monti, who is averaging 22.1 points per game. Skip Mead is averaging 20.9 points per game for the T-Birds. Reserve guard, Paul Beck, did a fine job against Western Now Mexico and may be called call-ed on to help out against the hot shooting Parsons. Guard Bruce Bradley was off his form last week, but Coach Adams hopes he will be back in form Friday. "If we can get going like we did against Nevada Southern South-ern and Adams State here, we can give them a real good game," Coach Adams stated. "Of the teams in the conference confer-ence that Westminster has yet to play, the T-Birds are one of the thre.9 that could dump them from their first place position." Adams hesitates to name a starting lineup. "This is a team that gives a coach several sev-eral options in naming a starting lineup. We have several sev-eral combination that work very well together." Gue.ssers are pointing to a starting five with Skip Mead and Dave Pinamonti - almost al-most certain starters Brent Turek, Bruce Bradley and Lou christensen. These are the five who have started the majority major-ity of games. However, if Adams decides he needs more rebounding, he can go with Gil Mullen in place of Turek. If defense is stressed, he may substitute Paul Beck and Bradley and Carl Banks for Christensen. The problem of defensing Hall is a sticky one. "He's such a fine one that we are afraid he'll get 30 or 35 pointts no matter what we do," Adams said. "We'll do the best we can on him, but we must shut off a couple of their other men or we'll be in big trouble." A CSU victory would give the Thunderbirds a first place tie with the Parsons. Each would have 8-2 records. Westminster West-minster is currently 8-1 in Rocky Mountain Sonference play. CSU has a 7-2 conference mark. |
