Show Utah Leads Nation In Voter Participation The Department of Commerce today officially verified statistics ' that Utah had the highest voter participation in the 19G4 Presidential Pres-idential election, according to Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah). A population report shows that nearly 79 per cent of the adult population in Utah cast votes for President in 1964, compared with a national average of 62 per cent, and a 68 per cent average in the Mountain West. The Utah lawmaker observed that Utah has a history of being on top of the national voting percentage. In 1956, the 76 per cent turnout was only one point below the national high of 77 per cent in Idaho and Connecticut, Connec-ticut, and way above the national na-tional average of 60 per cent. During the 1960 Presidential election, el-ection, a national high of 80.1 per cent of civilian adults went to the polls in Utah, compared with the 63.5 per cent average across the nation. The report also revealed that this year there are an estimated 31,000 more Utahns of voting age than in the last election, bringing bring-ing the total to 525,000 civilian , : residents of voting age in Utah. |
