Show Shakespearean Festival Sets Attendance Mark Attendance continued to mount at the fifth annual Utah Shakespearean Shakes-pearean Festival with second week figures matching the first week's records. A total of 4,029 persons had viewed the three Festival Fes-tival plays after the first performance. per-formance. Attendance at the first six performances per-formances of the three plays surpassed sur-passed the entire patronage of th Festival's first season in 1962. Total attendance this year, will far surpass last year's total attendance of some 5,000 persons from 36 states and six foreign countries, according to Fred C. ,dams, producing director of tne Festival. The weather has threatened to force action indoors nearly every night, but only one audience has actually had to go inside. The Saturday, July 23, presentation of "The Gentlemen of Verona" was begun on the outdoor tiring house set, but finished inside the 1000-capacity auditorium adjacent ad-jacent to the Festival grounds. Large crowds have attended the performances this week, and increasingly heavy requests for reservations indicate a prospect for capacity audiences for the final three performances of the Festival, according to Mr. Adams. The current season closes Saturday, Sa-turday, July 30. Performances may still be seen of the three plays, which include "The Taming Tam-ing of the Shrew", tonight (Thursday); "Julius Caeser", Fri day, and "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," Saturday, the final performance per-formance of the Festival. |
