Show City Council Takes fiction to Provide I Additional Culinary Water to System Extension of two city wells and the authorization for the preparation pre-paration of a call for bid for a new well to the culinary water system were granted at a meeting meet-ing of the City Council held Thursday, July 21. Mayor Loren A. Whetten indicated in-dicated at the meeting that owing to present drouth conditions in the area the city 13 currently using practically all of its water supply -- approximately eight second feet. Acting on a recommendation of the water board the council authorized the city engineer to prepare bids for the drilling of a new well at the Quitchapah site for an additional two and one-half second feet of water that had previously been granted by the state engineer. Dry conditions have also resulted re-sulted in a lowering of the water tables at both the Quitchapah and Enoch wells, it was reported. Council authorized the purchase j of materials for extension of both wells in the event the need j arises. I The appointment of Steve Lunt as chairman of the city recreation recrea-tion committee was approved by the council at the meeting. A request by the Iron Rangers for lease of property near the old race track southwest of the city was taken under advisement. advise-ment. Purchase of 700 feet of new fire hose was authorized by the council. A request for rezoning near the proposed Interstate Highway System on 200 North Street was denied with tthe council indicating indicat-ing that no zoning changes were anticipated in the area until such time as the highway is constructed con-structed at which time actual needs might be determined. The action was taken according to Mayor Whetten in keeping with recommendations of the city j panning engineer and the planning plan-ning and zoning commission recommendations. re-commendations. Mayor Whetten further indicated indi-cated that seal coating and chipping chip-ping on city streets got underway this week and is expected to be completed by the week end. Bids for oil mulch has also been advertised ad-vertised with bids to be opened m August 4. Street oiling program pro-gram is expected to get underway under-way as soon as possible after the awarding of the bid, it was indicated. |
