Th apprehension also ended a four-day flee from the law by Steven Lynn Clark and Joseph Thomas Palmasano who overpowered over-powered two Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies Thursday in the University of Utah Medical Center. Their flight had taken them to San Francisco, Calif, and back. Events leading up to the capture cap-ture in Cedar City Saturday night began at 7:15 p. m. in St. George when city police officers Joe Hutchings and Bain Swapp picked pick-ed them up on a routine speeding speed-ing charge. Brought to the St. George Police Pol-ice station, the officers radioed for a disposition on the vehicle in which the two were riding. A radio response that the vehicle veh-icle was stolen started a chain of events that included overpowering overpow-ering the two St. George officers, stealing at gunpoint another vehicle veh-icle at Pintura, and final capture in Cedar City approximately four hours later. Clark drew a gun on the two St. George officers when the pair headed north on Interstate Highway 15 in the stolen vehicle to Pintura where they forced entry en-try into the home of Harold Pay-Win Pay-Win and took the keys to Mr. Payton's car at gunpoint. Shortly after 8 p. m., the two police officers, using a hoe to pry the handcuffs loose, freed themselves and radioed the Highway Patrol to set up roadblocks. road-blocks. The alert to law enforcement officers coincided with the flight of the fugitives so that a member mem-ber of the Highway Patrol, Wm. Burch, met the fleeing pair at the Vandenberge Interchange at the end of the Interstate system eight miles south of Cedar City. Trooper Burch fired three shots at the two youths, but by dousing their lights, they were able to avert apprehension at that point. They continued north to Hamilton's Hamil-ton's Fort where they left Highway High-way 91 and attempted to flee on a dirt road. A blown tire forced them to stop and they fled to tse hills on foot. Law enforcement officers from throughout the area converged on Cedar City and set up a series of roadblocks completely surrounding sur-rounding the area in an attempt to contain them in the area.
