Show Education Board Approves New School Plans Plans for a new elementary school building to be erected in the southwest section of Cedar City were approved by the Board of Education in meeting Monday, Mon-day, and will now be submitted to the State Board of Education for final approval. Preliminary plans for the new 14-classroom building had been under study by the board for some time, and ail suggestions for changes wee presented to the architect, L. Robert Gardner, Monday, and instructions given to prepare plans to be submitted to the state board. Some time was also spent on a a study of a budget of expenditures expen-ditures for the coming year, but action was deferred until further study of teacher salary schedules can be made. A special meeting has been called for Saturday, April 13, at which salary proposals propos-als will be discussed and a tentative ten-tative budget outlined. The board authorized calling for bids for the sale of the Davis home on the North Elementary school grunds. The home, located locat-ed Just north of the school on 500 West street, will be removed to make the area available for playground purposes. Authorization was also given for the purchase of power lawn mowers for the Cedar high, Junior Jun-ior high and West elementary campus, the Parowan school and Paragonah school. The offer of the State Department Depart-ment of Education to conduct a three-day custodian school In the district was accepted. Date for the school was not definitely College of Southern Utah was granted permission to use two classrooms in the West Elementary Elemen-tary school for teaching demonstration demon-stration purposes during the col-lege col-lege summer session. Clifton Chatterley, mechanical arts Instructor, was authorized to attend an industrial conference confer-ence in Salt Lake City this week end. |
