Show Rams Victorious In Iron County Tourney The Parowan High School basketball bas-ketball team rolled to its second and third victories in a row last Friday and Saturday to end on top of the four team Iron County Coun-ty tournament staged in Cedar City and Parowan on those two nights. Coach John Wood's squad scored close victories over two of the strong teams from central Utah, Wasatch High of Hebcr City and Juab High of Nephi, last year's state class B champions. The Cedar Redmen dropped their games to the visiting teams on both nights. The Rams won from Wasatch on Friday night 60 to 56 after trailing during most of the first three quarters. Led by Kenyon Clark, the high scorer for the game as well as the meet, the Rams finally overcame a two-point two-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to win. They trailed at the quarter marks 15-11, 28-27 and 48-46 but outscored the northern nor-thern team 14 to 8 in the fourth period to rack up the win. In the Saturday night finale in the Parowan gym, the Rams and the wasps of Nephl met I:, one of the closest and most tx-citing tx-citing games ever played here, with the home team finally drawing away to win by four points, 42 to 33 in the final two minutes of the game. It was also one of the cleanest games with only five fouls being called against the visitors and four against the Rams, and the officiating was very good. The Rams scored 19 field goals to 18 for Juab and got four foul shots out of six tries, while Juab got only two out of four tries, to account for the four point win. The visitors got the first basket, bas-ket, Parowan the second, the visitors vis-itors the third and the score alternated al-ternated this way until Parowan got a foul shot so that the lead alternated with each basket almost al-most all of the way. Juab led 12 to 10 as the first period ended, and the Rams were ahead 20 to 19 at halftime. As the third quarter opened the Rams went out ahead 25 to 20 but the visitors came back to tie it up and forge ahead and the lead see-sawed back and forth aga'n with the Rams holding a 30-29 leaa at the three quarter mark. The fourth period was the same until the final two minutes when the Rams stretched the lead to four points and managed manag-ed to hold it to the end. Box scores of the games are on the sports page of this issue of the Record. |
