Show Broncos Drop Games In Opening Of California Series College of Southern Utah Broncos Bron-cos left on their annual basketball basket-ball tour into southern California Califor-nia Sunday, and in two encounters encoun-ters in the sunshine state have dropped two contests. Monday evening the Broncos were handed a loss by Glendaio College at Glendale, by a score of 62 to 54. Wednesday afternoon the Broo-cos Broo-cos entered the Chaffey Invitational Invita-tional Tournament at Ontario, and ran up against a strong Santa San-ta Ana club and were defeated by a score of 79 to 62. At Glendale the two. clubs battled bat-tled it out during the first half of play with the Broncos coming up with a one point margin. However, immediately following the intermission Glendale jumped jump-ed out to a lead and the Broncos Bron-cos were unable to make up the deficit. Against Santa Ana two tall boys, as players go, at six feet seven and six feet nine, respectively, respect-ively, took complete control during dur-ing the first half of play as Santa San-ta Ana immediately moved out in lead and held a decisive 4T to 28 halftime lead. Led by Donald Burton, who tanked 18 points in the contest, including six of seven from the foul line, the Broncos staged somewhat of a rally during the second half of play, but the margin mar-gin was too much as the Santa Ana crew moved to a 79 to 62 win. At one point the gap had been closed to within nine points at 62 to 53, but it was the closest clos-est the Broncos came in the second sec-ond half. High point honors in the contest con-test went to the tall boys from. Santa Ana with Livasce hitting for 21 and Bretmond for 18. Dean Conant for the Broncos did well as did Elliot Jordon and George Rekoutis added nine to the cause. Second round of the tournament tourna-ment play will see the Broncos in action today, Thursday, at 1:.' p. m. MST. |
