Show LDS Church Youth Will Hold Gigantic Rally Nearly 1000 youths from Cedar and Parowan Stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints, will assemble in Cedar Ce-dar City on Jan. 3 as a part of a gigantic youth rally In which nearly a half-million are expected expect-ed to participate. The half-million LDS youth are expected to gather in a series of 122 mass meetings throughout the United States. This will be the kick-off of a 13-week series of Sunday night gatherings in which the young people will hear messages of inspiration in-spiration and counsel from top church officials, and will discuss among themselves the problems facing youth today. The Jan. 3 meetings will be tuned in on a nation-wide closed circuit broadcast from the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle in which it is expected President of the church David O. McKay, 86-year-old h?ad of the Church, will give the keynote address. The youths assembled at the Cedar Stake Hour- will hear this initial message and the oifcani-zation oifcani-zation will be handled by the state YWMIA and YMMIA organization organ-ization to carry out, according to Elwood J. Corry. stake president presi-dent Each of the 12 subsequent Sunday Sun-day nights meetings, or "firesides," "fire-sides," will be keynoted by other leading church officials in Salt Lake City, their addresses being relayed by radio broadcast or recordings re-cordings to young people assembled assem-bled in more than 2,000 separate ward or neighborhood groups. The subsequent series will be sponsored in Cedar City by .he wards, President Corry said. Time for the Initial meeting in the Cedar Stake House, Jan 3, has been set for 7 p. m., with a brief program prior to the main program from Salt Lake City which Is scheduled for 8 p. m. MST. |
