Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY ESCALANTE VALLEY NEWS SPECIAL NOTICES There will be a General Coordinating Co-ordinating Council meeting Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Sept. 1, at 8:30 p. rn. Everyone is urged to attend. Jess Guymon, Chairman of the Iron County Commission, has extended ex-tended special invitation to thej people of the Escalante Valley to( join with the members of the Five County organization for the next meeting to be held Saturday, Sa-turday, Sept. 6 in Beaver. The Beaver Lions Club will be host organization, ami have planned an interesting tour of the Beaver Mountains to wind up the day's activities. There will be a special meeting of all groups planning to participate parti-cipate in the Iron County Fair Parade Sunday evening at 5:00 oVlock at the school. Mrs. Miriam Mi-Garry has asked that everyone concerned plan to be there. Don't forget about the Primary Elections, Sept. 9. Voting will be in the School House. CANDIDATES NAMED FOR POWER BOARD DIRECTORS The nominating committee for the Escalante Valley Electric As-I As-I soclation has named the follow-inging follow-inging candidates for positions on that group's board of directors: direct-ors: Newcastle A. C. Christen-sen Christen-sen and Gordon Knell; Modena Horace Phelps and Alfred Force; Rlehland-Beryl Charles Boss-hardt Boss-hardt and Elmo Farnsworth. The election will be held Sept. 10 during dur-ing the association's annual meeting. Additional nominations may be made at that time If desired. de-sired. There will also be a discussion dis-cussion of company policy and the problems now before the electrical cooperative. Leon Bowler, manager of the Electrical Assn., reported that Mr. Thomas Adams, REA consulting con-sulting engineer, was in the valley val-ley last week looking over a construction con-struction job that the association : is planning in the near future. I Last Saturday Mr. Bowler and Gordon Moyle, President of the Assn., were in Escalante for a meeting of the Intermountain Consumers Assn. The Escalante Valley Electric Assn. office is currently undergoing under-going a facelifting. Harv.-y Wright of Cedar City has contracted con-tracted to paint and repair the ! building. The work Is now in i progress. j BOYS AND GIRLS ACTIVITIES I Campfire Girls By Carol Robinson At our August 21 meeting we practiced marching. We are going go-ing to march in the parade n Parowan at 10:00 a. m. Sept. 1st. 4 H Clubs The Live Wires, 4-H electrical club, and their parents were hosts to the Lookie-Cookies and Happy Patchers 4-H clubs Aug. 20 for a swimming party and weiner roast at the Veyo pool. Mrs. Edith Hunt, who Is the leader lead-er of both of the girls groups, was also a special guest. THE CUB SCOUTS The monthly Cub Scout Pack meeting was held Friday. The boys, their leaders and parents enjoyed an evening of games on the lawn at the Escalante Valley School. Plans were completed for Scout participation In the Iron County Fair. They topped off the evening with a watermelon bust. VALLEY PLANNING ENTRIES FOR COUNTY FAIR PARAE' Preparations are virtually complete com-plete for the Escalante Valley Division of the County Fair Parade. Par-ade. The Escalante Valley Women's Wo-men's Club and the Lions Club, under the general direction of Mrs. Miriam McGarry are working work-ing on the major float to be entered en-tered from the valley. Other entries en-tries will include a float for Miss Escalante Valley, her attendants, and Miss Escalante Valley 1957, who has returned to the valley for the occasion, with Mrs. Mari-leen Mari-leen Austin acting as chairman of that float committee; an agricultural agri-cultural division float to be prepared pre-pared by the Coordinating Council Coun-cil under the direction of President Presi-dent Niels Nlclson; a humorus float tn be prepared by the Wildlife Wild-life Federation under the direction direc-tion of President Bryner Wood and Board Member Alfred Force, and a float to be entred by the Escalante Valley PTA under the direction of President Doris Ped-ersen. Ped-ersen. At least 1 and perhaps 2 entries will be placed In the pio- neer division one to be a white top wagon loaned by G. R. Parry of Cednr City for the occasion. oc-casion. The pioner entries will feature those residents of the Escalante Valley who pioneered in the early ear-ly development of the valley and who have continued to live here. They include Mrs. Maud Moyle, Beryl; Rob Piatt, Thomas For-sythe, For-sythe, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hunt and Mrs. A. C. Christensen, Newcastle; New-castle; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frah-ske, Frah-ske, Lund, and one or two residents resi-dents of Modena. Other entries In the parade will be a troop of horsemen organized by Don Applegate, who will come complete with "Street Cleaners" recruited from among the dignitaries digni-taries of the valley; one or two small gasoline powered vehicles entered by youngsters of the and marching groups of Campfire Girts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts and four or five 4 II Clubs. NEWS IN BRIEF Mrs. Edith Force traveled to' Las Vegas last week for a round of Nevada State BPW meetings. Mrs. Force is the Southern District Dis-trict director and she attended the Southern District Board meeting meet-ing on Thursday at Fong's Gardens. Gar-dens. Friday evening she went to the North Las Vegas membership member-ship meeting which turned out to be a patio social at the lovely home of Mrs. Marie Simons. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gardner journeyed to Salt Lake City last week. The trip was for medical and pleasure purposes. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Ardelyan of Los Angeles are here visiting the Ray Hunts for about a week. Also guest in the Ray Hunt home is Miss Tamra Hunt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Hunt of Cedar Ce-dar City. Larry Robinson was home over the week end to see his family. Johnny McGarry is hon.e on leave to visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. McGarry. Johnny is in the army and has been stationed in San Diego California. |
