Show Iron County Schools Welcome Students As Vacation Ends; Increase Expected Approximately 2500 Iron Coun-I ty students from the first to the twelfth grades, elementary through high school, will turn' out on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to answer the call of "back to school." j According to reports of the ten schools of the Iron County School District an increase in enrollment is expected for the opening. All schools will open their doors at 9:UO a. m. to begin classes and registration, lanthus Wright, superintendent, sup-erintendent, indicated. Nearly all of the schools arei expecting a slight increase over last year's enrollment and in anticipation an-ticipation of this increase six additional ad-ditional teachers have been added add-ed in the system, Wright pointed out. Two additional teachers have been added in the North Elemen- tary school to handle extra large, classes that are advancing in the' school. For the 1957-58 school year two classes were held in the .third and sixth grades with! ! three classes taught at the second and fifth grade levels. Instructors have been added in the sixth and third to allcw proper advancement advance-ment of these students. Another addition this year U that of a teacher in the East Elementary school for the specific speci-fic purpose of teaching handicapped handi-capped children. This class is anticipated an-ticipated to increase enrollment by approximately 20 students. Parowan Elementary, which anticipates a slight enrollment Increase, will also have an additional addi-tional teacher; Cedar's West Elementary will gain one instructor in-structor and a sixth addition is that of a driver training instructor instruc-tor at the Cedar City High School this school year. Cedar High School is expected to move into the 400 figures this year compared to a high last school year of 380. Seniors who graduated numbered 110 and the ninth grade class from the Cedar Junior High which will move into the High School this fall, numbered 170, 60 more than the graduating class. At the North Elementary enrollment en-rollment at the close of school was 415 and is expected to increase in-crease from 65 to 70 this fall. East Elementary should enroll approximately 400 after completing complet-ing the last school year with 384. An additional 35 students are expected at the West Elementary on top of a 358 enrollment for the 1957-58 year. Cedar City Junior High School will have a slight increase over the 454 of last year. Escalante Valley school is expected ex-pected to move from 168 last sea-i sea-i son to 175 or 180 this year, and Kanarraville with 35 and Para-gonah Para-gonah with 67 students last year are expected to remain the same. Parowan High School, which Includes students from the Keventh through twelfth grades, is expected to remain about the same, at 215 with the Elementary Elemen-tary at Parowan to show a slight increase over the 233 of last year. All new Instructors In the Iron County school system this year met in special sessions Tuesday of this week and all faculty members met for a workshop Wednesday morning and at their respective schools Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the opening of the school year. This morning, Th'wsday, workshop work-shop continued and this .tfter- system and all permanent employees em-ployees will meet for a social gathering at Duck Creek Campgrounds. Camp-grounds. Friday teachers again will meet in their respective schools to complete preparations for the beglning of school Tuesday, Sept. 2. |
