Show I Truck Travel Restrictions Eased at Zion National Park Service officials have announced this week that they will withdraw, temporarily, a proposed special regulation that would prohibit commercial truck traffic on roads in Zion National Park. Park service officials pointed out that the day is already here when all truck trafie should be prohibited on the Zion-Mt. Car-mel Car-mel route in the interest of public pub-lic safety and convenience and to allow visitors full enjoyment of the superb scenery along this load, which is its primary purpose. pur-pose. However, because of the lack of adequate roads between Hurricane Hur-ricane and Kanab and Fredonia the Park Service is withdrawing restrictions for truck use of the roads during certain periods of the year. According to information received re-ceived the East Kim Road in Zion National Park will be open to commercial truck traffic only during those times (aproximatc-ly (aproximatc-ly from November 1 to April 1) when the Zion-Eryce approach road, Utah State Route 11 over Cedar mountain, is closed to such traffic. Commercial truck traffic will also be restricted to use of the road during the night or between the hours of 10 p. m. and 6 a. m. Trucks will be taken through the park convoy style. It was also pointed out that lifting of the restriction could be revoked at any time in the interest in-terest of the park and its roads or at such time as an alternate road- outside the park is made available to connect the two areas of the state. |
