Show Board Studies Appointment, Building Plans Budget, Bids, Land Exchange; Name Teachers The Iron County School Board in a long session Monday considered con-sidered a wide range of business im-ludinf; the study of tentative plans for the new Couar City Hih School, approval of purchase pur-chase of a new school bus, acceptance ac-ceptance of bids for installation of steel doors at Junior High School, discussion of teacher schedules, approval of several new teachers, preliminary stu- dy of budget for coming year, approval of division of students for school of Cedar City, consideration con-sideration of land exchange with Cedar City, sifting of applicants for building and grounds supervisor, super-visor, and a number of other matters. A total of 21 applications had been received for the position of supervisor of buildings and grounds, and after consideration of qualifications of each, it was decided that a few of the best qualified will be interviewed before be-fore final selection is made. Bids were opened for the installation in-stallation of new steel doors at the Cedar Junior High School, ! with Blackburn and Gower, Co-Idar Co-Idar City submitting the low bid I of $3,511.00. This contract includes in-cludes complete installation of I outside doos and frames, etc. in i the Junior high building. A delegation cf teachers met I with the board to discuss contracts con-tracts and teacher schedules in i preparation for signing of contracts con-tracts for the coming year. Dedication of the new elementary elemen-tary school in Parowan was tentatively ten-tatively set for Friday, April 28. Considerable time was spent in tiiscussiiig ieniaive pimia for the new Cedar City High School, with most of the discussion centered cen-tered on propsed expansion of the physical education plant by planning for multiple use of various vari-ous portions of the plant. The architect was instructed to work on the proposals made in preparing pre-paring plans for the building. Four new teachers were approved ap-proved for the elementary system sys-tem during the 1961-62 school year, including Dorothy Stuckl, Beryl Vorkink, Doris Esplin and Florine Major, all of Cedar City. A preliminary study was made of funds that may be available and operation needs for the coming com-ing year, as a start on a tenative budget, which It is expected will be presented at the next meeting of the board. Purchase of a j.ow 66-passen-ger bus to replace one of the old busses was authorized. Guidance Director Jay Casper presented a report on achievement achieve-ment tests taken by fourth grade students, indicating that general achievement In local schools is above the national normal. A tentative land exchange agreement with Cedar City Corporation was discussed. The exchange of land use is in connection con-nection with the new high school-, school-, where city recreational facilities facili-ties will be developed. The use exchange is being worked out In order that city recreational facilities can be developed adjacent ad-jacent to the school facilities, and thus provide better use of the facilities. A division of students for attendance at-tendance at the three Cedar City Elementary Schools was approved by the board, and will be announced an-nounced In detail near the opening open-ing of school in September. |
