Show CEDAR CITY SOCIAL SWING By Virginia Webster A combination birthday and Christmas social sparked the holiday ho-liday season last wk as members mem-bers of the Birthday Club gathered gather-ed at the home of Carma Dob-son Dob-son to share in the gala event Guests met in the recreation room of the Dobson home where they were treated to dinner. The ladies of the club, along with their husbands, paid special tri-, bute to Murlal Stephenson who was celebrating her birthday anniversary. an-niversary. Joining in with the party goers were Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Whitney. A yule party was enjoyed by members of the Thursday evening even-ing Pinochle group. Members of the club were greeted by hostess for the affair, Marian Esplin, at her home. Games were played, gifts exchanged and everyone enjoyed a tasty repast. On hand for the social were Edna Sargent, Ruth Cahoon, Lillian Randall, LaRuc Tucker, Marian Murdock, Marie Corry, Fern Leigh, Yvonne Bulloch, Elva Nelson and Rea Carter. Celebrating their wedding an-1 niversary Saturday evening, Dec. 15, were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nel-1 son. The Nelsons, assisted by the i C. M. Brownings and Louis Web-sters, Web-sters, met at the Webster home early in the evening for casual visiting and party snacks. Following Fol-lowing their home social the three couples' enjoyed steak dinner din-ner "in town." Maxine Mickleson was a week end guest at the home of her sister, Helen Webster In Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Berry and children arrived in Cedar City last week. They divided their time between Dr. and Mrs. John Beal and the Glade Berrys of Kanarraville. Mr. and Mrs. Eldro Rigby are expecting their son, Bruce, and his wife and four children to arrive ar-rive this week end for a pre-Christmas pre-Christmas visit. The Bruce Rigby family reside in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Rigby's mother of St. George will also join with the group. In keeping with the yule en-1 tertainment season Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Hendricks staged an Open House Saturday evening. Their special guests, twenty couples cou-ples in number, included the past year's new employes of the Dixie .National Forest Service. Party fun and a yuletide atmosphere at-mosphere was in store for Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reber, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Green, Mr. and Mrs. .Max Torres and Mr. and Mrs. Hud Green Saturday evening as they met at the home of Mr. and i.lri. Kred Smith for'a few hours. Games and refreshments added to the pre-Christmas fun. A surprise pot luck supper at a club session took place at the home of Rose J. nson, December 14th. Members of ilie usuai sewing sew-ing group got together for the purpose of bringing in the yule season. In addition to dinner and sewing the ladies exchangeed pifts. Attending the social were Uarlene Graham, Diane Brown, Vnna Thorley, Beverley Pollock. Jean Moss, Nida Childs, Norma West, Joyce Hanson, Maxine Shirts and a special guest of Maxinr's. Last week guests arrived at eight in the evening at the ome of itha Robinson where they entertained themselves with card games and casual conversation. On hand with regular club members mem-bers was invited guest Coleen Nelson. The club girls competed for unique scores in Pinochle. Winners Included Ann Gower, Kariaan Nelson and Louise Savage. Sa-vage. The once a month get together of the Reading Club was held at the home of Nellie Hopkins Friday, Fri-day, Dec. 14, with co-hostess for the occasion being Violet Fife. Twelve members of the club were present to hear an interesting interest-ing historical report given by Florence Higbee. Mrs. Higbee gave a story she had compiled on the Spilsbury family of Southern South-ern Utah. Turkey Dinner was served to guests who were invited to the Averett residence by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Averett Saturday evening. The occasion was planned plan-ned around a yule theme with decorations adding to the idea. Enjoying the get together were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Mead Forsyth and Mr. and Mrs. Van Esplin. December 14th marked the calendar ca-lendar of events for officers and teachers of the Sixth Ward along with their partners. The occasion was planned in keeping with the Christmas Holiday season. Forty-four Forty-four guests enjoyed a delicious dinner prior to an entertaining program which included a visit from Santa. A vocal solo was rendered by Mrs. Emma Warren. Mrs. June Barren and her daughter, daugh-ter, Sherrol played a piano duet and Cora Condie led the group in Christmas caroling. To spark up the evening guests reported that Mrs. Douglas Webb presented present-ed an original and clever Christmas Christ-mas reading. |
