Show 'Students, Supporters Watch R - B Considerations Utah rate High School Activities Activi-ties Association is currently making mak-ing a study of the need or advisability advis-ability of re-alignlng schools of the state for competitive purposes, pur-poses, and students of Cedar High and supporters of the school, are anxiously watching the situation, because it may have a far-reaching effect on Cedar High, particularly In the field of competitive athletics. The question being considered la that of moving some schools such as Cedar High, Into A classifications. clas-sifications. This type of change has been pending for some time, since schools reaching an enrollment enroll-ment of 500 have been expected to move Into the A classification. Now some thought is being given to the possibility of three divisions, an A, B and C, or an AA, A and B. The suggestion has been made that schools from 300 to 1000 enrollment be placed in one category, those over 1000 In one, and those less than 300 in the third. The question of competition com-petition betwn the "big" and "little" schools has always been a problem. Undoubtedly some new alignment align-ment is necessary, but many feel that the matter. of travel should be one of the major considerations. considera-tions. For instance, Cedar, American Amer-ican Fork, Judge Memorial, Union Un-ion and Pleasant Grove high schools have enrollments of ab-ut 500, but to place this group ii one division would create a ttnific travel problem. There are always complaints that It is not fair for a school with 150 to 250 enrollment to com- : pete with a school with 500 enrollment en-rollment This may be true, but is it more unfair than to force schools in the 500 class to compete com-pete with enrollments of 1500 to over 2000? This is an important decision that will effect the activities of Cedar High In future yean, and it Is hoped that a fair arrangement arrange-ment can be decided upon, with all matters including enrollment, travel and area rivalries, being given due consideration. |
