Show Thunderbirds Join Three ICAC, Four Outside Teams in Tournament at Dixie This Week t Six states will be represented in the Dixie College Invitational I Basketball tournament to be held ! at St. George Thursday, Friday I and Saturday evening. The College of Southern Utah I Thunderbirds will be one of three i Utah teams and one of four In- termountain Collegiate Athletic i Conference teams in the event, i Host Dixie, CSU and Snow College, Col-lege, all of the ICAC, will participate parti-cipate in the event along with Ricks College of Rexburg, Ida. a fourth member of the conference. Other teams and other states . are represented including Mesa College of Grand Junction, Colo; r Chaffey College, Ontario, Calif.; , Eastern Arizona, Thatcher, Ariz. and Casper College of Casper, Wyo. r The T-Birds of CSU met East- ern Arizona in the opening round of play Wednesday evening, and are placed in a bracket including E.A., Casper and host, Dixie. The upper bracket consists of ' Ricks, Mesa, Chaffey and Snow. t Thursday evening games will pit the winner of CSU and East- ern Arizona against the winner of Casper and Dixie contest at 9 p. m. and the losers are scheduled sched-uled to meet at 7:30 p. m. The tournament will be one of the toughest tests of the pre-con-ference season for Coach Boyd Adams and his Thunderbirds and will also give a good indication of the comparative strength of a number of the ICAC clubs. LaMar Pugh, Marian Roper and Mel Wadsworth have proven to be the top three scorers and rebounders for the Thunderbirds. All three hit in the double fig- ' ures in three games in California this past week as well as leading the way in the rebounding department de-partment Expected to start on the guard line are Paul West and Ray Greenberg backed up by Bob Chambers and Don West. Behind Pugh at the center spot is Lynn Jensen of Milford with DeLoy Young and George Tasulis filling out the reserve spots on the forward line. I Added just this week to the ' squad, according to Coach Adams, lis John Yeates. He will replace Ted Garrett of Beaver who turned turn-ed in his suit following the Cali-fornia Cali-fornia trip. Garrett a sophomore, made the decision in order that he could devote more time to his studies. |
