Show I Parowan Rams Seek First Season Win After three weeks of practice games the Parowan High School basketball team is still seeking its first win of the season after dropping five games, the last one by four points In an overtime contest last Saturday night, at the fieldhouse In Cedar. This week Coach Lowell Cald-wells Cald-wells team has a heavy schedule of three games In four nights, two of them being against the Cedar High Redmen. The first of these games was against the Redmen on Wednesday night In the CSU fieldhouse. Then on Friday Fri-day evening the Rams will travel to Enterprise to take on the Enterprise En-terprise High Wolves. Then on Saturday night the Cedar Red-men Red-men come to Parowan for a contest con-test with the Rams in the local gymnasium. The Parowan team is hoping to break Into the win column in this week's games, with the expectation ex-pectation that it may be back at full streangth for at least the week end games. Robin Graff, one of the few men returning from last year's squad and a strong offensive as well as defensive defen-sive players, who has been out with an illness, is expected to bp back this week end to bolster bols-ter the squad. In the Iron County Tournament last Friday and SattJ-day, the Parowan team suffered losses at the hands of Western High of Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday by a score of 75 to 35, and dropped its Saturday game in the CSU fieldhouse in Cedar City to Lincoln Lin-coln High of Panaca, Nev. by a 3$ to 35 score in an overtime game. The Parowan team, dominated by juniors and sophomores with little or no experience, were no match for the Western High team Friday night. The last year's Nevada Ne-vada trlple-A champions, with an all veteran outfit, jumped off to an IS to 10 lead in the first quarter, quar-ter, the only period in which the Rams came near matching shots. The next period saw the Nevada Neva-da team hit 19 points to five for the Rams to lead 37 to 15 at half- time. The visitors continued to pull ahead in the second half, maintaining a 51 to 23 lead at the third quarter rest and getting 24 points in the final frame for the top-heavy win. The Ram players were Just up against too much in this one and shouldn't feel bad in losing to the Newada outfit, even oy that large score. Saturday night at the field-house, field-house, it was a different story! in the game with the Lincoln Lynx and had the Rams been a little more consistent in their shooting, should have taken this one. Total point output of both of the teams was only nine points in the first quarter, with Lincoln tnklnor a S tn 4 lonH At h?!ft!r!?.0 they were out ahead still by one point, 12 to 11, but Increased the lead to five, 21 to 18 at the three quarter rest. The Rams came back to tie it up as the game ended. In the three-minute overtime the Lynx got five to three for the Rams to win. The Rams lost the game at the foul line, hitting only 13 out of 21 tries while giving the Neva-dans Neva-dans 33 shots out of which they got 20 points. The Rams outscor-the outscor-the winner 11 to 9 field goals. |
