Show I Baseball Stalwarts Recognized Nationally Two members of the College of Southern Utah baseball team, champions of the Intermountaln Collegiate Athletic Association, have received national recogni-zation recogni-zation In the 1962 National Junior Jun-ior College All-American selections. selec-tions. Gordon Loveless, shoristop for the Thunderbirds, was named to the all-American second team, and Steve Cahoon received honorable hon-orable mention for his pitching. Both were freshmen at CSU during the past seas in and both would be eligible for continued play next season. Loveless is from Spanish Fork and Cahoon is a Cedar City boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cahoon. The Thunderbirds were defeated defeat-ed in national competition by the Phoenix Bears and the Bears went on to win the NJCAA championship champion-ship at the tournament held at Grand Junction, Colo. Both of the boys were outstanding outstand-ing for the Thunderbirds during the season. Cahoon had an impressive im-pressive seven win and two loss record with one of the losses suffered suf-fered at the hands of the Brig-jham Brig-jham Young University team, j which won the Western Div ision of the Skyline Conference championship. cham-pionship. Cahoon appeared in 12 games during the season pitching pitch-ing a total of 71 innings. He allowed al-lowed 49 hits and only 15 earned runs for an earned run average of 1.89.
