Show Safeway Leaguers Run into Second Half Trouble TEAM STANDINGS Lions 2 0 1.000 Columbia 1 1 .500 Elks 1 1 .500 Safeway 0 2 .000 Wed. in the final game ot the first half of play in the Cedar City National Little League Safeway Safe-way handed Lions a defeat to win the half with a perfect record rec-ord of nine wins and no losses. With four games being played since that time the tables have been reversed and Safeway, undefeated un-defeated in the first half, is now in the cellar in the second half with two su'jcessive losses. Columbia turned the tide on Safeway to open the second half defeating them by a score of 16 to 2 last Thursday evening behind be-hind the fine one-hit pitching of Dale Hatch. Hatch, who left following fol-lowing the game with his parents par-ents for Oregon, finished his Little Lit-tle League career in Cedar City in fine style. He served up a home run to Dale llanslnk for the only hit of the game and the other Columbia score came off two waUs and an error. Howard Peterson of Columbia also homered hom-ered in the game, one of 15 hits collected by the team. Fred Liv-ermore Liv-ermore was the starting pitcher who, finding control problems, gave way to Jon Hunter. Monday it was Elks who defeated de-feated Safeway by a score of, 18 to 5. Elks collected only ten hits but took advantage of walks given up by three Safeway pitchers pitch-ers to push over the 18 runs. Winning pitcher was Kevin Gow-er. Gow-er. who held the Safeway crew to just five hits. Kevin Row ley, Jon Hunter and Ronnie Hunt all saw action for Safeway. In the other two games of the week Lions won their way to the top of the second half standings with two victories. Friday evening Lions defeated the Elks 16 to 11 in a marathon game that featured walks. Wade Robert was the winning pitcher and he gave up only one hit in the game, a single, but also allowed al-lowed a total of 23 walks to account ac-count for practically all of the Elks' 11 runs. Elks took a lead in the game, but Lions put together to-gether seven runs in the fifth frame to take their first lead, then held that lead for the victory. vic-tory.
