Show College Sponsor Corps Members Have Full Calendar The AF ROTC Sponsor Corps of the College of Southern Utah this week was nearing the peak of its activities for this school year. Members of the Corps this week were making preparations for a series of appearances as a precision preci-sion marching group and were assisting the cadets with preparations prep-arations for the sixth annual Military Ball to be held in the C S U ballroom on April 15. Friday evening the sponsors will perform it the National Guard Military Bail at Beaver. On May 10 they will demonstrate demon-strate their skills in marching and drill during the annual inspection in-spection of the AF ROTC unit. They close a year of campus service ser-vice activities by accepting an invitation to parade at the Hell-dorado Hell-dorado celebration in Las Vegas on May. Coeds are selected to the sponsor spon-sor corps by the cadets and faculty fac-ulty advisors. To be eligible for nomination, the girls must have demonstrated leadership and scholarship in high school and maintain these attributes in college col-lege to remain sponsors. Poise, posture and facial contour and expression also are factors in their selection. The sponsor corps originated at Utah State Agricultural College before the turn of the century as a service organization to the military detachment. The C S U unit was organized after the installation in-stallation of the AF ROTC program pro-gram on' the campus six years ago. In recent years the corps has added new chapters at many colleges and universities, and the first national convention was held In Cedar City in May, 1953. Present commander of the sponsor corps is honorary Lt. Col. Sonya Nielson. Her staff includes Honorary Majors Merradon Ivor-son, Ivor-son, Carolyn Black, LaRue Dal-ley Dal-ley and Darlene May. Cadet Major Douglas Stoker, assisted by Cadet Lt. Lane Ron-now, Ron-now, has Instructed the coeds in military drill during the current cur-rent school year. |
