Show Dixie Area Deer Herd Study Completed, Statistics Compiled Deer winter range studies and trend counts made annually on the Dixie Deer Herd were completed com-pleted Sunday. This work, which is done cooperatively by the Utah Fish and Game department, Bureau Bu-reau of Land Management, Forest For-est service, sportsmen and livestock live-stock interests was started the Monday before and ran for seven sev-en consecutive days, according to Leland Heywood, assistant supervisor of the Dixie National Forest. Condition of the forage, number num-ber and strength of deer, and general range conditions were studied and recorded. The group, which varied from eight to 10 riders each day, covered areas near Pintura, Leeds, Beaver Dam Wash, Diamond Valley and Pinto. Results of the work will be presented to the big game board at Cedar City on May 5, at which time recommendations for the coming year's hunt will be considered, Mr. Heywood said. j |
