Show Music Arts Committee Reorganizes With M. A. Cowley As New Chairman L' V' i I MELVIN A. COWLEY Reorganization of the Cedar City Musk- Arts Committee, necessitated nec-essitated liy the resignation of Mrs. Virginia Larson, chairman, has been completed by the Coordinating Co-ordinating Council. Mis. Larson, who has been active ac-tive ua the committee lor some tune, was recently named chairman chair-man of the committee to succeed Mrs. Leatha I'restwich. However, her husband, G. O. Larson, has accepted a teaching position at Brigham Young University at I'rovo, and she will leave soon to make her home there. Melvin A. Cowley, who has been a member of the committee for the past five years, was named chairman to succeed Mrs. Larson, and Morgan Rollo was appointed as a committee member mem-ber to fill the vacancy caused by Mrs. Larson's resignation. Miss Bea Roberts, also a member mem-ber of the committee for the past five years, was named as vice chairman, a new position created on the committee this year. Miss Joyce Benson, who was recently re-cently appointed as secretary and treasurer to succeed Miss Janet Rollo; Roy L. Halversen, corresponding corres-ponding secretary, and Mrs. Fae Dix, coordinator, will continue to serve in that capacity under the new organization. The remainder of the committee includes Dr. Daryl Chase, Mrs. Bernclla Jones, A. B. Larson and Mr. Rollo. Mr. Larson, who will leave this fall to teach in Las Vegas, must be replaced later, but no action has been taken on the appointment appoint-ment as yet. The newly organized committee commit-tee met Tuesday evening, at which time Mrs. Larson reported on the current status of committee commit-tee affairs, and tentative plans for the 1954-55 program were discussed. dis-cussed. The committee has arranged for another concert by the Utah Symphony Sym-phony orchestra as one of the series for the coming year, and three other numbers will be contracted con-tracted for it is understood. The symphony appearance will be on Friday, Nov. 19. |
