Show Local Boxing Cards Prove Very Popular Boxing' cards were held Thursday Thurs-day and Saturday evening in the BAC stadium during the running of the Iron Bowl Race Meet last week, and drew fair sized crowds each night. Saturday night in the eight-round eight-round main bout, Louis Gonzales decisloned Kid Leon after a hard fought battle. Gonzales was in command most of the time and pressed the fight. All- the knockdowns knock-downs were by Gonzales. In a six-round affair, Spike By-bee By-bee of Cedar City defeated Warren War-ren Bushhead of Moccasin, Arizona Ari-zona in a hard fight with both boys slugging it out all the way. Both of the fighters were aggressive aggres-sive and mixing it all of the time. In another six-rounder, Cornell Olds of Cedar was TKO'ed In the second round by Halverson, a Utah Parks employee. Halverson's experience proved too much for Olds, and the fight was quickly over. Manuel Singh of Salt Lake City quickly disposed of Copper Rice of Cedar City within 30 seconds sec-onds of the first round. Rice didn't have a chance as Singh tore into him, and the fight was over with In short order. Rex Lunt won a decision over Bill Smith in an opening prelim inary bout. A free-for-all, with four boxers in the ring was also staged much to the amusement of the fight fans. The main go in Thursday night's fights saw Ralph Helms of Salt Lake City, stop Kent Hoyt, of Cedar City for a third roimd TKO. The top bridge in Hoyt's mouth was damaged and loosened loos-ened near the end of the second sec-ond round, and he failed to come out for the third. The fight was fairly even while it lasted. These two boys fought to a draw in Salt Lake City recently. Bybee scored a TKO over Johnny John-ny George when the latter failed to come out in the fourth for their scheduled six-round bout. A large cut over George's right eye did the damage. In another six-rounder, Olds and Warren Bushhead fought to a draw in a tough fight The last round saw Olds hanging on with Bushhead throwing everything every-thing at him. Smith Bushhead scored a TKO In the third round over Kid Hartley Hart-ley of Cedar City. Hartley was doing well until he sprained his thumb and was unable to come out for the third round. |
