Show Council Approves City Fire House Construction Plan Mayor Gronway R. Parry was authorized by the City Council, at its regular meeting last Thursday, Thurs-day, to begin work on the new-Cedar new-Cedar City Fire house. Plans have already been drawn up, and the new building build-ing will be erected on the public pub-lic parking lot across the street from the City Hall building. J. G. Lowman, city engineer, and Kumen Gardner, councilman in charge of the water department, depart-ment, were appointed to head a committee that will make a sur vey of water lines and reservoirs in the canyon. The survey is being be-ing made to see if more water can be obtained, and also to improve im-prove and service facilities now being use. Because so many streets have been ripped up to install sewer lines and connections, and because be-cause the city has been standing the cost of repairing the streets, a fee will be charged from no on. Persons breaking through an oiled road to make a sewer connection con-nection will pay a fee of $10. Those breaking through dirt roads will pay S3. A recommendation was made by Mayor Parry to the Council that prices of sale be obtained on the Public library and the Tourist park to see how much money could be realized from their sale. A committee was appointed ap-pointed to look Into the matter. Mayor Parry feels that enough money could be made available through the sale to build and equip a new library. G. O. Larson, director of the Cedar L D S Institute of Religion Re-ligion and chairman of the Iron County Chapter of the American Red Cross, met with the Council and advised the group that Red Cross funds for the care of transients tran-sients have been exhausted and the chapter will not be able to care for any more persons. Concern Con-cern was expressed over the number of transients that are being cared for lately in Cedar City. Members of the Retail Merchants' Mer-chants' Committee of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce also met with the Council and a discussion was held on the status and regulations regula-tions concerning solicitors in Cedar Ce-dar City. No action was taken on the matter. |
