Navy Trade Schools Are Open To New Enlistees A new enlistment policy fcr Navy trade school applicants was an-nounced an-nounced today by Chief Petty of fleer LeRoy A Jones, recruiter In charge. U S Navy Recruiting Station, Sta-tion, Cedar City. 29 qualified new men each month from Utah, Idaho, the western portion of Wyoming, and Nevada's Elko and White Pine counties will be permitted to select a Navy trade school at the time of their enlistment. These 29 qualified quali-fied enlistees will be assured that upon completion of their recruit training period they will be entered in the Navy vocational school of their selection. A choice of 14 schools will now be directly available from civil life to new enlistees comprising vocational voca-tional Instruction ranging from 41 weeks at the Aviation Electronic, material school downward to nine weeks for navy ships cooks and! bakers. Previous to this time only four such schools have been avail able to new men. Principal trade1 among the 16 are such vocations as electrician, machinist, mctalsmlth, radio and radar, patternmakers, basic submarine and aviation fundamentals. fun-damentals. Men who graduate from such schools as the aviation fundamental fun-damental school are further eligible eligi-ble for specialize training at 12 other aviation specialty schools Mr. Jones further stated. The Chief cald the quota per month for each school Is limited but will remain constant throughout the year. Applicants Ap-plicants must be high school graduates grad-uates between 17 and 31 years of age who have had no previous service ser-vice In the armed forces. Duty or membership In reserve components ucb as the Naval Reserve or National Na-tional Ouard since April 1, 1946 Is not disqualifying, Jones asserted. |
