Show New Development Company To Study Electric Plant Construction preliminary engineering studies of the feasibility of the construe-, tlon of a large electric power gen-1 erating plant in Cedar canyon, to provide electric power for Iron and Washington counties, will start soon as the result of the Incorporation of a new power development company com-pany here. Articles of incorporation of the Southwest Utah Power and D'el- opment Co., a non-profit cooperative, coopera-tive, have been signed and filed with the Secretary of State. The organization was completed as the result of studies started some time ago to determine ways and means of providing more power with which to meet the needs resulting from continued growth In the two counties and the establishment of new industries hi the area. LeRoy H. Cox, St. George, former for-mer Fifth Judicial district judge, Is president of the new cooperative coopera-tive and five directors each from Iron and Washington counties will serve on the new board. Other officers elected by directors direc-tors Friday include H. L. Adams, Parowan, Iron county ocrnmisslon-er, ocrnmisslon-er, first vice president; Anthony Isom, Hurricane, second vice president; pres-ident; Miss Mat tie Pendleton, St. George, secretary-treasurer. Additional Addi-tional directors are Mayor G. R. Parry and Graham D. McDonald, j Cedar City; A. C. Hatch, Parowan; , Parley Moyle, Beryl; Mathew M. Bentley, St. George; Arthur J. Bar-locker, Bar-locker, Enterprise, and Alvin Larson, Hurricane. e first action of the new officers offi-cers was to authorize the engineering engin-eering studies for a new plant, with the idea of building near the coal deposits of Cedar canyon. They also agreed to Investigate the possibility of purchasing the present properties of the Southern Utah Power Company which operates oper-ates In Iron, Washington and Kane counties. The Southern Utah Power Pow-er company Is owned by Washington Washing-ton Gas and Electric Co., a public utility holding company, which has been ordered by the Securities and Exchange commission to dispose of, its southern Utah holdings. The organizers have taken the stand that industrial and agricultural agricul-tural development in southern Utah has been retarded because of the! lack of adequate power, and the development company was organ-! lzed for the purpose of overcoming' this condition, and promoting further fur-ther development in the area. |
