Show Heber C. Perry 83, Dies, Services Held Tuesday Final rites were conducted in the Cedar First ward! chapel Tuesday afternoon for Heb'er Charles Perry, 83, one of Cedar City's oldest native residents, who died Saturday of pneumonia following a brief illness. Mr. Perry was born in Cedar City on September 28, 18G4, a son of Ocorge and Susannah Perry, early pioneers of this section. A resident of Cedar City all his life, Mr. Perry was a pioneer dairy rancher and cattleman, and for many years he maintained a dairy ranch on Cedar mountain where his family engaged In the manufacture of cheese and butter during the summer months, as was the custom in the earlier days of Cedar City. In later years he devoted his time to farming and was active In the development of Irrigation projects in the fields surrounding Cedar City. He was active in musical circles In his younger days, and was a member of the old city band, and of the school band at the Brand. Normal school. He also played tht vlolIA la a dance orchestra that provided music for most of the early ear-ly day dances In the community. Older residents of the community probably remember him best for his holiday tune serenading. Mr. Perry married Caroline E Jensen, in the St. Oeorge temple of the LD3 church on May 8, 1889, and Is survived by his widow, one daughter, Lauretta and two sons, Clayton and A. Carlyle Perry, all of Cedar City. The funeral services were conducted con-ducted by Bishop James Heywood of the Fifth ward. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Melba Sargent, and the musical program at the services Included, a vocal duct, "I Heard the Voice of Jesus", by Mrs. Elaine Southwlck and Lorin C. Miles, accompanied by Reed Barrett; a violin solo by Roy L. Halvcrscn, accompanied by (Continued on Back Page) Heber C. Sandgren, accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Larson. Speakers were Samuel F. Leigh, Warren H. Bulloch and Bishop Adam Seegmiller. Invocation was by James Parry, benediction by C. William Macfarlane. and the dedication ded-ication cf the grave by Thomas Lawrence. |
