Show City Will Plan Route of Highway Through Town The City Council of Cedar City was assured at Its meeting Thursday Thurs-day that the State Road Commission Commis-sion would permit the city to designate desig-nate the route through the city to be taken by the proposed new super highway, providing the route is feasible frctn an engineering standpoint. stand-point. The assurance was given by members of the State Road commission com-mission who met with the city council coun-cil Thursday to discuss the matter. Preliminary planning Is essential the commissioners stated, and they urged the city officials to be prepared pre-pared to make definite recommendations recommend-ations when the time for designating designat-ing the route arrives. The City planning board has been studying the matter for some time, and it Is understood that a number of routes have been considered. It Is felt by some that the road should be kept on the East side of town so that traffic would leave the highway high-way and enter the city, rather than by-passing it. One proposal has been mentioned that the road go through Cedar City at 8th cr 12th West, and it is feared that such a route wouli have the effect of turning traffic away from Cedar. Considerable thought Is now being be-ing given to a proposal to have the road approach the city from the North on the Tast side of the knell north of town, and follow close a- long the foothills, go through the Indian village, past the welfare building and the ball parks, and then swing East and go through the block between Third and Fourth East to the Southern boundary of the city and then turn West to highway 91. However, no decisions have been reached and detailed study of the matter will be continued. x |
