Mills, local agent, this week urged all eligible men to comply fully with provisions of the Selective Service Act of 1948. In discussing provisions of the act and affirmative steps eligible eligi-ble men may take to avoid delinquency, de-linquency, the FBI men warn that a violation of the Selective Service Act of 194S is a very serious ser-ious matter. The Act is designed to provide pro-vide for the common defense by increasing the personnel of the Armed Forces of the United States and provide for their training. A wilful violator may be subjected to stringent penalties penal-ties including imprisonment up to five years, or a fine as high cs $10,000, or both. Since the outbreak of the Korean Kor-ean crisis, many draft boards have reported as high as 50 per cent of their men failing to answer an-swer their induction notices. All male persons residing in the United States or its possessions posses-sions between the ages of 18 and 2C are required to register. Persons Per-sons becoming 18 must register within five days after their 18th birthday. Recently Mr. J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, had suggested, suggest-ed, for the benefit of those not familiar with the requirements observance of the following: register promptly, fill out and return questionnaire promptly, keep local board advised of correct cor-rect mailing address, report for examination and induction when so ordered , report changes in family status or occupation which may have a bearing on classification, always carry registration regis-tration certificate and classification classifi-cation notice on your person, and if you have made an honest mistake, talk it over with your local board. Where investigation reveals violations of the Selective Service Act, the facts will be presented to the proper United States Attorney At-torney for a decision on prospective prospec-tive action. The local draft board in Cedar City is located in the post office building, and at the present time is open in the mornings only. |
