Show Firemen Make Attendance Record at Confab Utah's "smoke eaters" climaxed climax-ed their convention in Cedar City Saturday, electing new officers and choosing next year's convention conven-tion site as the largest firemen's convention ever held in the state came to an end. John J. Creedon, Bingham, reelected re-elected secretary of the Utah State Firement's Association for his 19th term, told delegates here that total registration had reached 670, the largest in the history of the state association. The firement chose Howard V. Casey, Richfield, to lead them as president for the coming year, while Logan was selected as the host city for the 1951 convention. Tate, Tooele, recond vice president; Mr. Creedon, Cree-don, reelected secretary; A. W. 1 Rhone, Tooele, reelected treasur-; treasur-; er and John J. Hanniffen, Eureka, Eure-ka, reelected to a five year term as trustee. In the elections of the firemen's fire-men's auxiliary, Mrs. Mary Har-d Har-d , Heber City, was elected president pres-ident succeeding Mrs. Martin Ftterson, Richfield. Also elected to serve with Mrs. Hardy were: Mrs. Mildred Newbold, Magna, first vice president; Mrs. Eva-lvne Eva-lvne Lawrence, Logan, second vice president; Mrs. Jennie Williams, Wil-liams, Spanish Fork, secretary; Mrs. Ellen Jenkins, Midvale, treasurer; Mrs. Rozella Hawley, Richfield, two-year trustee; Mrs. Ramona Anderson, American Fork, one-year trustee; Ruth Brockbank, Spanish Fork, historian, histor-ian, and Nwa Cushing, Bingham, chaplain. During the business sessions of the state organization, the firemen fire-men Increased the death bene-fit bene-fit payments of the organization from $175 to $200 and also set the first Thursday In August as the opening day of the annual three-day convention. They also adopted a resolution urging the creation of a state fire marshal. Nearly all of the 48 fire departments de-partments In the state were represented rep-resented at the convention, and of these men, 95 were presented service awards on the opening day of the meet. Pins and certificates certi-ficates for 25 years of service were presented to 69 of the firemen fire-men and 26 were presented with 10-year service certificates. The three-day gathering came to a close Saturday with a conducted con-ducted tour to Cedar Breaks in the afternoon, and a concert by the Master Singers in the evening even-ing in the First ward chapel. |
